MENU COVID 19, RECIPES SHARED IN VIRAL TIMES
Conceptualization, writing, graphic design, self publishing of an e-book

MENU COVID 19: recipes shared in viral times, is a particular cook book; it is not so much about recipes as it is about the stories of people eating in viral times and their circumstances.

I interviewed friends who live in countries that are not their own, inhabitants of the 21st century who have made the world their home and have tried a bite of everything —breaking borders just like the virus. COVID-19, did become a global health emergency, it was called a globalized and democratic disease, attacking both black, white, green like me, straight, gay, children, old, hungry, and obese. The book also speaks about the digitalized times we live in: today communication takes place through social networks, audio messages, text messages and emojis.

Food sharing can happen at any time: at breakfast you eat with your eyes the Colombian ajiaco that a Finnish friend sends from Stuttgart. The ingredients are reduced to delicious pixels and travel through space to be cooked in Instagram stories or a chat window.  A book made with some of my favourite ingredients: design, storytelling and food.

The idea came to me in March 2019 and within two months I conducted the interviews, designed and self-published the book through Amazon as an ebook with the option to buy print on demand.  All the earnings from the sales have been donated to a social kitchen in Chile, which has been converted into approximately 900 meals.
