BOOK COVERS FOR PENGUIN RANDOM HOUSE Mix media As a passionate storyteller with a deep appreciation for visual expression, I have always found joy in bringing narratives to life through creative mediums. My journey as a storyteller began with a love for literature, where I discovered the power of words to transport readers to different worlds and evoke emotions. However, I soon realized that my passion extended beyond just words; I yearned to tell stories visually, to capture the essence of a narrative through imagery and design.
Some years ago and without any pretensions I started a humble personal project titled Alternative Book Covers for the Books I Read. It was a mean to remember the stories and also an aesthetic exsercise. It was then that Penguin Random House, one of the world's leading publishing houses, took notice of my work and recognized its potential to resonate with their audience.
I illustrated a collection of 15 book covers by Hernan Rivera Letelier, one of Chile’s best-selling authors. He is known for his evocative storytelling, often set in the harsh desert landscapes of northern Chile. His works delve into various themes that reflect the human condition, Chilean society, and the complexities of life.
I was familiar with the Atacama Desert, having spent a lengthy vacation traveling across northern Chile with my family. I knew the ghost towns and its cementeries adorned with paper flowers, their colors faded by the relentless sun. During the time I was creating the illustrations, I found myself in the vast desert of Australia, embarking on another immense journey.
